SCENE 01 / GAFFER LIGHTING TEAM
Gaffer & Lighting Services Indonesia
Professional gaffers and lighting crews with expertise in LED, HMI, and tungsten systems. From intimate interviews to large-scale nighttime shoots across Indonesia.
Here is how this works in practice. The gaffer and lighting team translate the Director of Photography's vision into practical lighting setups on set. In Indonesia, gaffers work at Jakarta's production facilities and on location across Bali, Java, and the archipelago, designing lighting plans that manage tropical heat and humidity while creating the desired visual atmosphere.
Here is the short of it. We assemble skilled gaffer and lighting teams matched to your production's scale, style, and tech needs. With gear sourced through Jakarta-based rental houses and Bali production suppliers, our team sets up crew availability, gear sourcing, and department logistics so your lighting team arrives fully prepared.

On Location
Our gaffers and lighting teams light productions across Indonesia, from studio stages and high-rise interiors in Jakarta to villa shoots in Bali and temple exteriors at Borobudur and Prambanan.
Here is what that looks like on the ground. We supply gaffers and full lighting teams from a crew base in Jakarta and Bali, translating the DP's vision into practical, deliverable lighting plans. Our gaffers head the electrical department: drawing up lighting and power schematics in prep, ordering fixtures, distribution and cable, and directing best boys and electricians on set. Crews carry a mix of modern LED panels and tungsten and HMI units, chosen to balance, fill or fight Indonesia's intense equatorial daylight.
Here is how the picture comes together. Tropical conditions drive each plan, so power packs and distribution are named for hot, humid running, cable runs are routed and weatherproofed against sudden tropical downpours, and fixtures and dimmers are covered from moisture. Heat load is managed for crew working long days in 32-degree conditions, with realistic pacing and shade. We work to the 230V/50Hz Indonesian mains and give power packs power and conditioning where the grid cannot reach.
Here is what we have to work with. For shoots in Bali, Yogyakarta or remote locations, we supplement the core team with local electricians and build kit lists that move fast by road, flight and boat. Indonesia's fast-growing domestic film industry, behind Jakarta-shot shoots such as 'The Raid' and a wave of Netflix-backed local features, has built a real pool of skilled lighting technicians around the two production centres of Jakarta and Bali. Jakarta, the megacity capital, hosts studios, rental houses and a skilled freelance grip-and-electric base, while Bali supports a steady calendar of commercial and feature work.
Here is the layout. The location range is top, from megacity interiors and the UNESCO-listed Borobudur and Prambanan to Bali's sea temples and the volcanic landscapes of Java, each making its own demands on a lighting team. Foreign shoots need filming permits. ATA carnets are accepted for incoming lighting and distribution gear, easing the movement of fixtures and grip kit. English is widely used in the film-services sector, strongly so in Bali, so a global DP and gaffer can brief Indonesian crew with ease. The dry season, roughly April or May to September or October, gives the most reliable conditions for exterior lighting work.
FAQ
Our Lighting Network
What does a gaffer do on set?
Here is the breakdown. The gaffer is the head of the electrical/lighting department, responsible for executing the DP's lighting vision. They design lighting setups, manage the electric crew, set up gear, and make sure safe power distribution across the production.
What crew positions are in a lighting department?
A full lighting department has: Gaffer (department head), Best Boy Electric (gaffer's assistant, manages crew and gear), Electricians/Sparks (set up and operate lights), and on larger shoots, Rigging Gaffers and Generator Operators.
Do your lighting crews bring their own equipment?
Crew and gear are mostly separate. We can set up gear packages from Indonesian rental houses to complement your crew booking. Some gaffers have personal gear for smaller shoots.
How many electricians do I need for my production?
Crew size depends on production scale: small shoots may need just a gaffer, medium shoots mostly need gaffer plus best boy and 1-2 electricians, while larger shoots need full departments with rigging crews.
Can your lighting crews work with international DPs?
Yes. Our gaffers are skilled working with global cinematographers and know global terminology, techniques, and workflow expectations. Many are fluent English Indonesian-English.
Do you provide generators and power distribution?
We set up power packs hire and distribution gear through our rental partners. Power packs operators can be had in crew packages for shoots needing major power infrastructure.
